OFFENCE AND ACTION (SCHOOL DISCIPLINE)

Throughout the policies listed below there is reference to Consequences and Sanctions for certain inappropriate behaviours. Some of these behaviours are dealt with in accordance with Board policies and regulations.

  • With respect to Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ Senior High School’s discipline policy, the consequences and remedies listed below may be used at the discretion of the Disciplinary Committee and School Administration to deal with any and all inappropriate student behaviour.
  • These rules and regulations are based on the G.E.S Unified Code of rules and punishments and  these are tabulated below. It is hoped that these strategies will aid the students in becoming more consciously aware of their actions and to develop socially acceptable behaviours.

6 Siesta shall be strictly observed by all students Offenders will be punished
7 Lighting, Coalpots, cooking stoves, electrical appliances, candles and utensils are not allowed in the school Such items will be confiscated and the offender forfeit boarding rights
8 All lights in the dormitories shall be switched off after lights out Offenders will be punished1st Offence: 2 weeks suspension

2nd Offence: Loss of boarding facilities

 

9 If a student attends hospital and she is not in position to return to school, the parent or guardian should inform the school authorities immediately Offenders shall be severely punished. Habitual absentees will be made day students.Parents are to take note of this.
10 Students who fall sick and cannot attend classes / Prep should be at the sick bay. Offenders shall be given internal punishment unless it is found out that they have broken bounds
11 All students shall be present for all meals at all times. No food is to be taken to the dormitory Offenders shall be given internal punishment
12 All school assemblies are compulsory for all students. These include morning assemblies, Sunday morning worship, Entertaiment, Prep, Opening and Closing Assemblies Punishment will depend on the gravity of the offence (Ranging from internal punishment to indefinite suspension).
13 There shall be no STEALING in the school Punishment ranges from internal punishment to indefinite suspension
14 Cheating during exam in any form will not be tolerated The paper will be cancelled, and offender given indefinite suspension.
15 Examinations are compulsory for every girl in the school Any girl who dodges exams will be punished severely
16 Visiting hours are from 12.30 p.m to 5.00 p.m on the 2nd Sunday of each month only Failing to comply, the student will forfeit boarding facility.
17 Visitors outside the specified times should see the Headmistress or Housemistress The student concerned will lose boarding facility.
18 Visitors should be received only at the Assembly Hall
19 No visitor should drive to any of the houses during visiting hours.
20 All students shall report to school by 4.00 p.m Those who report late without any tangible reason will forfeit boarding facility
21 The school gate will be closed to all vehicles bringing students to school after 5.00 p.m.
22 All students shall wear the prescribed style of school uniform. Unprescribed styles will be confiscated and the offenders punished
23 All students shall wear brown sandals with low heels.
24 Cheating in internal examinations
  • 1st Offence – One month suspension
  • Subsequent Offence/Repetition – Withdrawal
25 Drunkenness
  • 1st Offence – Suspension
  • 2nd Offence – Withdrawal
26 Marijuana (Wee) possession, smoking and drug abuse
  • Dismissal (Recommendation for Psychiatric Treatment if necessary)
27 Incitement to riot and or rioting
  • Suspension (for those pressured into rioting)
  • Dismissal (for ring leaders). Parents should be made to pay for cost of damages
28 Breaking bounds/Truancy, including refusal to attend classes or official functions
  • 1st Offence – Manual work with Counselling
  • 2nd Offence – Suspension
  • 3rd Offence – Withdrawal
29 Leaving School under false pretences
  • 1st Offence – Suspension.
  • 2nd Offence – Withdrawal.
30 Sexual misconduct
  • Withdrawal
  • Dismissal for cases of rape
31 Pregnancy
  • Withdrawal /Transfer
32 Termination of Pregnancy/Abortion

33 Flouting the authority of the Head and other members of staff

  • 4 weeks suspension. Student is to resume school after suspension only on erasure of the tattoo mark
45 Hiding in the dormitory or refusal to attend prep and general school functions, official gathering

46 Possession of Mobile phone

48 Students may use the library at times specified by librarian. Students who lose or damage library books/material

52 Students must not visit opposite sex tutors or non-teaching staff bungalow after 6.00 p.m.
