MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS OVER THE YEARS

Under the auspices of Miss Asuande Eshun-Famiyeh the School has attained some success
in the area of Science, Maths, Debate, Sports, etc. Notable among them is an Excellence Award presented by the West African Examinations Council to Miss Sarpong Afrifa Brago who was adjudged the overall 2nd Best Candidate in Ghana and the 3rd Best in West Africa in the year 2018.

Again, the School won the 64th National independence SHS Debate organized by the Ghana
Education Service in 2021.

The Writers and Debators Society (WDS) of the school achieved the following laurels from
2018 to date:
1. Runner-up of National Independence
2. Runner-up of National Independence Debate, 2019.
3. Regional and Zonal Champions of National Independence Debate, 2020
4. National Champions of 2020 Independence Debate.
5. Quarter-Finalist of Luv FM High Scholl Debate 2019, 2021.

In relation to the National Science and Maths Quiz, in 2017, Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ Senior
High School qualified after a 3-year absence and placed third in the regional championship.

At the National Championship, Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ Senior High School met St. Peters
SHS and St. Augustine’s since we had lost our seeding status and were knocked out. Yaa
Asantewaa Girls Senior High School returned in 2018 after qualifying from the regionals
and pit our wits against the six-time record winners, Presbyterian Boys and were knocked
out in the one-eighth stage.

In 2021 we met T. I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School – Kumasi in the qualifiers and agonizingly missed out after a keen contest where we lost by two points. This makes it 3
consecutive years from 2019 to 2021 that we have failed to qualify. The team have started
training the form 2’s and 1,s this time having deployed a new approach of separating them
form the class so that much attention can be given them. Science students are on vacation
but they are currently in school being taught by some selected teachers. They are being housed at Afia Kobi (house 1) together with the SHS 3 students who are helping to train them.

CONCLUSION
I would want my successor, together with old students and other stakeholders to look at improving the water system and supporting the school team for the National Maths and Science Quiz competition.

In particular, the school should liaise with Kasapreko Company Limited who have expressed interest in the project and has given us a proposal. The proposal was forwarded to the Ghana Education Service Lawyer through the Regional Director of Education. I urge the new management to make follow up on this for the smooth take-off of the project.

Secondly, attention should be given to the National Science and Maths team of the school to succeed.

The old students and the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) should invest in motivating the staff and the students to boost their morale. The support should be geared towards making the school the first ever female school to win the competition.

Lastly, male teachers who are staying on campus should be made to come out during the night to supervise preps and other activities so as to help maintain discipline amongst students.

Teachers who refuse to support the school this way should be made to pack out so as those willing to support would be given accommodation.

In conclusion, I wish to express my sincere gratitude to all and sundry for the support given me during my tenure as headmistress of this great institution.

Mention must be made with the tremendous support I had from the Board of Governors of this school, I would forever be grateful for the support.

My Regional Director has always opened her doors to me and I enjoyed her counsel.

The Parent Teacher Association, the staff, old student, and the entire Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ Senior High School community have been awesome with their support. I will forever remember the great moments we shared together.

As I bow out today, I urge all stakeholders to support my successor so that our dear institution will continue to be among the best in the country.
